Sand is one of four primary material streams recovered through EcoVac's hydrovac slurry recycling process.

At our Etobicoke facility, sand is separated from incoming non-hazardous hydrovac slurry and processed into a clean material for appropriate reuse applications.

Instead of being treated as part of a mixed waste stream, the sand becomes a recovered product in its own right.

How We Recover Sand

Hydrovac slurry contains a mixture of water, stone, sand and fine soil.

EcoVac's processing system separates these materials into individual streams, allowing the sand to be recovered and managed independently.

Hydrovac slurry → Separation and screening → Recovered sand → Reuse

The recovered material is carefully processed and managed with a focus on consistency and appropriate reuse.

Uses for Recovered Sand

Depending on project requirements and applicable specifications, recovered sand can be used for applications including:

• Restoration

• Road construction and rehabilitation

• Asphalt applications

• Backfill around homes and other buildings

• Footings

Keeping usable sand in circulation helps make better use of existing material while reducing the amount of hydrovac material that may otherwise require disposal.

From Waste Stream to Material Stream

Recovering sand is one part of EcoVac's broader approach to hydrovac material recovery.

Incoming hydrovac slurry is separated into aggregate, sand, clay and treated water, allowing each material to be managed individually and directed toward appropriate reuse opportunities.

It's a simple shift in thinking: instead of asking how to dispose of the entire load, we look at what can be recovered from it.
