Recovered & Treated Water
Putting water from hydrovac slurry back to work.
Water is a major component of hydrovac slurry, and an important part of EcoVac's material recovery process.
At our Etobicoke facility, water is separated from incoming non-hazardous hydrovac slurry, treated and recovered for reuse.
Instead of looking at water as something to simply remove from the slurry, we treat it as another resource that can stay in circulation.
How Water Recovery Works
As hydrovac slurry moves through the EcoVac process, water is separated from the solid material streams.
The recovered water is carefully treated and managed before being reused within the process or made available to support hydrovac operations.
Hydrovac slurry → Separation → Water treatment → Reuse
At the same time, the remaining solid material is separated into aggregate, sand and clay for its own potential reuse.
The result is a more circular system that gets more value from both the solid material and the water contained in every load.
Reuse in Hydrovac Operations
Hydrovac excavation relies on water to safely break up soil before it is removed by vacuum.
Recovered and treated water from EcoVac can be reused to fill outgoing hydrovac trucks, helping put that water back to work.
This creates a practical cycle:
Water used for hydrovac excavation
↓
Slurry delivered to EcoVac
↓
Water separated and treated
↓
Recovered water reused
Reusing water in this way can help reduce demand for additional fresh water while supporting a more efficient approach to hydrovac operations.
Water Is Part of the Circular Economy Too
Circular material recovery isn't limited to solids.
EcoVac's process is designed to recover the four main resources contained in incoming hydrovac slurry:
Aggregate. Sand. Clay. Water.
Treating and reusing water alongside the recovery of solid materials helps make better use of the resources already present in each load and supports customers looking to reduce waste and improve water conservation.
Where measurable data is available, water recovery can also contribute to customers' own sustainability and ESG reporting.
Recovered Water in Toronto & the GTA
EcoVac treats and recovers water from hydrovac slurry at our Etobicoke, Ontario processing facility, serving hydrovac operators throughout Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area.
Hydrovac operators can contact EcoVac for information about water filling services and current availability.
